Become, created and performed by Wendy Jehlen - African dance, Brazilian Capoeira, Bharata Natyam, Odissi, Butoh and Contemporary Dance, all woven seamlessly in a solitary tapestry of a single body moving in space. Moving from introspection to discovery, from despair to ecstasy, “Become” is a distillation of mood and meaning.

“Become” is an evening-length work which consists of eight episodes, ranging from 1 to 15 minutes in length. “Become” includes three short “Handscapes,” poems on the hands, which draw inspiration primarily from American Sign Language poetry, South Indian classical dance and Capoeira.

The longer episodes are as follows:
"Dawn" – premiered at Critical Moves 2006, a contemporary dance concert juried by Alicia Cardone.

“Found Objects” – based on two movements, one from Senegalese dance and one from Odissi, Found Objects is a juxtaposition of angle and curve.

"Wall"– growing out of an American Sign Language poem on obstacles and frustration, in this episode, the dancer throws herself repeatedly against a non-existent wall to the point of exhaustion and beyond.Found Objects – based on two movements, one from Senegalese dance and one from Odissi, Found Objects is a juxtaposition of angle and curve.

"Rise" – in three sections, Rise explores the dancer’s relationship with gravity.

"The Moth" – commissioned by the Jahan-e-Khusrau 2007 festival in Delhi, India, “The Moth” a visualization and embodiment of the perennial Sufi image of the moth and the flame, in which the moth emerges from its cocoon, finds flight, and is drawn inevitably toward the flame and its own annihilation.
